Although children’s rights are in theory guaranteed by the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), they remain a vulnerable group.
Whether children experience family conflict, insecurity or isolation, they are often the main victims of mistreatment. If the abuse continues, it can negatively affect the child’s well-being with potential consequences later in life.
In cases of a child at risk, we have options to use our global network to seek intervention in the best interest of the child. If a child is in a dangerous situation, we involve the authorities in Switzerland or abroad to take protective measures.
Through our partner organisations in 120 countries, we assess the situation of the child in its family, in a foster family or in an institution. We take over the transmission of the reports and the international coordination. Authorities are supported in making decisions in the best interest of the child.
We inform about the HCCH 1996 Child Protection Convention verify whether a country has ratified the Convention, assist in identifying the different options and offer advice.
