According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the rights of all children should be respected and guaranteed. However, children remain a particularly vulnerable group whose rights are often disregarded.
Children are often victims of abuse in family conflicts, precarious situations or isolation. Physical or psychological abuse, especially if it occurs over a long period of time, can have a lasting negative impact on a child's well-being, often causing psychological damage that lasts into adulthood.
If a child is at risk, we can use our global network to intervene in the best interests of the child. If a child is in a dangerous situation, we involve the authorities in Switzerland or abroad to take protective measures.
We also provide professional and culturally sensitive child advocacy services. We talk to the child, help them to form their own opinions, ensure that they receive child-friendly information about their situation and the proceedings, and represent their interests in both family and immigration proceedings.
By leveraging our network of partner organisations spanning approximately 120 countries, we are able to commission comprehensive child welfare reports. These reports assess the individual situation of children in their family environment, in foster care or in institutions. We take care of the transmission of the reports and international coordination. This enables authorities to make decisions that are in the best interests of the child.
